Solar Powered Water Project Brings New Hope to Aperekukrom and Buffuorkrom

10/12/25, 1:00 pm

A new solar powered well is transforming life in Aperekukrom and Buffuorkrom by improving water access, health, and community wellbeing.

Communities in Aperekukrom, Buffuorkrom, Pepease, and Anwerese gathered to celebrate the commissioning of a new solar powered water well that is already changing lives. For many years, families in these communities struggled with limited access to clean water, often relying on unsafe sources and walking long distances each day. The new facility provides safe and reliable water that supports health, education, and daily living.

The project was delivered by Forsports Foundation in Sunyani in partnership with the Cologne Association of Migrant Organizations in Germany, with the friendly support of the W. P. Schmitz Foundation in Düsseldorf. Funding came from the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in Berlin. The commissioning ceremony brought together community leaders and government representatives who acknowledged the importance of the achievement.

A speech read on behalf of the Bono Regional Minister emphasized that clean water is essential for community development and that the facility will reduce the burden on women and children. The Member of Parliament for Sunyani West also expressed appreciation to the partners and described the project as a meaningful investment in the wellbeing of the people. The Municipal Chief Executive, represented at the event, highlighted the strong collaboration and planning that made the project possible.

Speaking on behalf of the communities, the Local Council Chairman shared the deep relief and joy felt by families who have long waited for such a solution. Representatives of the project partners also addressed the gathering. Dr Eugene Litvinov expressed his happiness in supporting another solar powered water project following earlier work in Tanoano, Antwikrom, and surrounding areas. He thanked Christopher Forsythe and the Forsports Foundation team for their continued commitment to expanding support across the Bono Region.

A WASH workshop was offered during the commissioning, led by Justice Bismark, focusing on responsible water use, hygiene, and sanitation. Women from the communities participated actively and welcomed the training as an important step in sustaining the new facility.

The event marked a milestone for the communities involved. The well is already supporting healthier routines, improving school attendance, and easing the workloads of families. The project demonstrates the positive impact that community driven development can achieve when local and international partners collaborate with a shared purpose.
