The Regional Day of Action in Abesim, held on February 20-21, 2025, was a groundbreaking initiative that merged environmental conservation with gender empowerment. Organised by Forsports Foundation in partnership with K.V.M.O.e.V of Germany, the event brought the community together to champion sustainability and equal opportunities for young women in sports.
The first phase saw over 200 trees planted in Baanmu, Abesim, with students, local leaders, and environmental advocates joining forces to combat deforestation.
Dr. Eugene Litvinov, Chairman of K.V.M.O.e.V, highlighted the initiative’s long-term vision:
“We are not just planting trees; we are planting hope, responsibility, and a vision for a greener future.”
As the trees took root, the focus shifted to the women’s football tournamentat Abesim Town Park, where young female athletes showcased their talent in a high-energy competition.
Christopher Forsythe, Founder of Forsports Foundation, emphasised the significance of the event:
“Football is not just a game—it’s a tool for empowerment. Today, these young women have shown that given the right platform, they can excel, inspire, and reshape the future of women’s sports in Ghana.”
The tournament was a bold statement for gender equality, challenging traditional perceptions and proving that women’s football deserves recognition and investment.
Nana Kumi Achaw, Chief of Abesim, praised the initiative’s impact:
“By planting trees and promoting women’s football, we are nurturing a future where both our environment and our young people can thrive together.”
The Regional Day of Action left a lasting legacy, proving that real change happens when communities unite for a shared purpose—whether it’s protecting the environment or empowering the next generation of leaders, athletes, and changemakers.
