A new solar-powered borehole water project has been inaugurated at Adedase, providing clean drinking water to a cluster of villages, including Domeabra, Anokyekrom, Agyemankrom, and Asamoakrom in the Sunyani East Municipality of the Bono Region.
The project, officially commissioned on 22nd September 2024, was sponsored by the Minister für Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten sowie Internationales des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen through Engagement Global and executed by Forsports Foundation, in collaboration with K.V.M.O.e.V from Cologne, Germany.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Hon. Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, as the Special Guest of Honour, and chaired by Hon. Justina Awo Banahene, Bono Regional Minister.
In his address, Hon. Tuah-Yeboahstressed the importance of private sector and international collaboration in addressing community needs, stating,
“The government alone cannot meet all the needs of the people. Water is life, and initiatives like this are vital for community well-being.”
Dr. Eugen Litvinov, representing K.V.M.O.e.V, highlighted the strong partnership between the Westfalen province and Ghana, which has enabled the successful completion of multiple projects, including a similar borehole in Tanoano. He noted how these initiatives have transformed lives by reducing the burden on women and children who previously walked long distances for water.
Christopher Forsythe, CEO and Founder of Forsports Foundation, celebrated the ongoing collaboration and announced upcoming projects, including a climate change initiative focused on tree planting and a Gender Equality Open-Day Football Festival in Abesim, scheduled for February 2025.
Expressing his gratitude, Nana Akwasi Donkor, Chief of Adedase, lauded the project sponsors and called for further support, particularly in utilizing excess solar power for community lighting and acquiring ICT equipment for the village school.
This landmark initiative marks another step in the sustained commitment of Forsports Foundation and its partners to enhancing livelihoods through access to clean water and sustainable community development.
