Mr. Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, has inaugurated a GH₵120,000 solar-powered mechanised borehole to provide safe drinking water for the residents of Tanoano, a farming community in the Sunyani Municipality.
Funded by KVMO, a German-based NGO, and executed by Forsports Foundation, the project brings relief to over 900 residents, mainly women and children, who previously walked long distances to fetch water from contaminated streams shared with animals, exposing them to typhoid and other waterborne diseases.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Tuah-Yeboah emphasised that access to clean water is a fundamental human right and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting deprived communities. Mr. Christopher Forsythe, Founder of Forsports Foundation, revealed plans to construct five additional boreholes in the municipality this year, in collaboration with international partners.
Dr. Eugene Litvinov, Chairman of K.V.M.O.eV, expressed his joy in witnessing the impact of the project, while Mr. Hayford Kuma, Assemblyman for the Nkrankrom Electoral Area, praised the initiative and appealed for further support to establish a Community-Based Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compound.
In recognition of his contributions to the community’s development, the chiefs and people of Tanoano enstooled Dr. Litvinov as Development Chief, marking a new chapter in their partnership for progress.
